Guide Dog Puppy Raising Project

Learn:

• How to train a puppy
• Proper feeding
• Grooming
• Community Service
• Leadership opportunities
• Scholarship opportunities through GDB

Complete:

• Minimum of 6 (1 hr.) meetings
• Puppy sit a GDB puppy for 1-2 week-ends
• Home visit by a Guide Dog Leader
• Recommendation of the Guide Dog Leader
• Apply for a puppy to raise from GBD from GDB

After approval of your application:

• Pick-up your puppy from GBD in San Rafael
• Puppies may be as young as 8 weeks but may be older
• Attend weekly meeting until puppy is 5 months of asge
• Attend 2 meetings/month after puppy is 5 months of age
• Puppies are kept in raisers homes for 12-14 months and then returned to GDB for formal training as a Guide Dog
• Occasional training activity on a week-end day
