Craft Fair at APRIL OT4H Club Meeting
At our April OT4H Club Meeting members will be able to create one or more crafts to be entered in the Alameda County Fair. Tables will be set up for Painted Rocks, Egg Carton/Pipe Cleaner creations and a Nature Craft using dried/pressed flowers and leaves. Officers will be leading the crafts and we are looking for parents to help as well so we can be sure to collect all the needed information for Fair entry. Fair entries are free but winning entries are eligible for significant prize money this year for Best of Class and Best of Show. Members can choose to concentrate on one craft or do all three quickly. Tables should be set up and manned by 6:15pm so....get to the meeting on time to create your art!

Parent Help Needed at the April Club Craft Fair
Parents help is requested to assist at the club's Craft Fair at our meeting Monday, April 13 at 6:15 pm. We will have three different craft tables (Painted Rocks, Egg Carton/Pipe Cleaner Creations and Nature Crafts) and members can try to do two or three or concentrate on one. The club officers will be helping with the craft itself but we could use parental help to keep supplies corralled but, more importantly, to make sure the small forms needed to gather required information for Fair entry get completed and crafts and forms get photographed to keep them organized. If you would like to help with any of these stations, please contact oaktown4h@gmail.com and get to the meeting just a bit before 6:15pm.

April Earth Day Seed Bomb Program
In recognition and celebration of Earth Day our Club's April Program will focus on creation of seed bombs that can be taken on hikes and dispersed in wild places. We will be using California Native flower seeds to crete these and you can take a small bag of them home with you 

Oak Town 4-H Officers for the 2026-2027 4-H Program Year
At our May OT4H Club Meeting we will be holding elections for our Officer Team for the 26-27 4-H year. A list of Club Officer jJob Descriptions, Requirements and Expectations will be available at the April OT4H Club Meeting and our current Officer Team will give short personal descriptions of what they do. To be a nominee for a position on the 26-27 team, members must be 9 years old by 12/31/2026. Different positions have different age requirements with Hospitality, Healthy Living and Recreation being appropriate for 9 y/o and up and President/VP required to be 13 or older. This last Sunday, we had our second robotics meeting. We have completed about a third of our entire robots and are far ahead of what we had originally planned. We are getting great participation from all of our members and all of the meetings have been pretty fun. We will continue having meetings every other Sunday so we can stay on track of our goal. All of our younger members are completing complicated tasks and the parents have also helped greatly. We hope to continue having fun and working hard on our robots.  -Aiden

OT4H Gardening Project Starting NOW!
The Oak Town 4-H Gardening Project is starting Sunday, March 8 at 2pm at the Butko's backyard raised bed gardens. We will be starting vegetable plants from seeds, learning about the preparation of the garden beds, care for the plants, sending some fresh produce to the Fair and harvesting what we can for our own use. We will meet about every two weeks on a Sunday afternoon with some breaks for holidays. We worked together on making a charcuterie board and learned some new things including a banana palm tree, an apple swan and salami roses. Our charcuterie board was full of cheese, pickles, fruit, crackers and more. If you are 12 and older and want to join our project, our next meeting is Sunday, February 22 at 2pm and we will be making food mosaics.

At the November Oak Town 4-H Club Meeting we presented "Welcome" packs to our NEW Members and some awards from the 2024-2025 4-H Year to some continuing Members. If you were not at the November meeting you can pick these up at the January Club Meeting.

NEW Oak Town 4-H Projects for Late Winter/Spring!
With the advent of 2026 we are ready to welcome a new batch of winter/spring OT4H Projects. Some of these have special articles submitted to this Blast and some may not. The 4th annual LEAP Conference scheduled for Janary 24th 9am -4pm is open for enrollment. ALL parents and volunteers are invited to attend. Teens 12+ are invited to participate as Camp Counselors for the younger members Day Camp. Oak Town 4-H Holiday Party is ALMOST HERE!
The OT4H Winter Holiday Party is just days away! Your Club Officer Team has planned an event that offers fun, service and a bit of fund-raising to help offset our club's meeting expenses. We will begin slightly earlier than usual but will be offering a combo Pizza and Potluck Dinner. There will be fun activities, contests, competitions, community service and a small Art Auction. To help us make sure the event runs smoothly we are in need of parents to help with some of this. Please check out our 2025 Oak Town Holiday Party Signup. If you are able to contribute any food to the potluck, your youth member has art they'd like to donate to be auctioned off, you can help assist with any of the activities and/or you are able to contribute toiletry items to the Holiday Compassion Gift Bags service project, please sign up. Your help and assistance is greatly appreciated!

Oak Town 4-H Holiday Party Ugly Sweater and Holiday Hat Contest
The Oak Town 4-H Holiday Party will feature both a Holiday Hat AND Ugly Sweater Contest. Wear your most festive holiday sweater and/or best self-created or decorated holiday hat to compete for prizes. There will be a prize for both the best overall Holiday Hat  and Ugly Sweater. You can compete in either or both contests. The competing Holiday Hats and Ugly Sweaters will be shown off and modeled for judges at 6:30. The winners will be announced at 7:30. Projects have started and we've gotten a couple of project reports from our club members!

Project: Painted Rocks
“We enjoyed painting rocks in the first painted rock project meeting. We painted the 4-H website on some painted rocks that we made and then we later got to put them in Montclair park. So now other people would see them and learn about 4-H. Everybody did very different painted rocks. we enjoyed making the rocks and hiding them.”

Project: Sewing
I've been part of the Sewing Project for three years with Oak Town 4-H. I think it's super fun because you can make stuff that is really cool and fun. For example a few years ago I made a whale stuffy and a reusable sandwich bag that I still have.

This year we meet at my parent's house so I don't have to move too far from the couch. Our first meeting we made pillow cases. I made the pillow case too long, but it's still fun to make. Next week we will meet for the second time and make trick or treat bags for Halloween.​

Our sewing project is always fun. We make useful things that we can use in our daily lives that are cool and fun. It is a great way to make new friends with common interests.

Trunk or Treat Needs YOUR Help!
Our October Club Meeting begins with a festive Trunk or Treat with families volunteering to decorate their trunks or tailgates with fall holiday-themed decor and a simple game with candy or trinket prizes. This means we need families to sign up as one of our Trunk or Treat vehicle "booths". This can be as simple or fancy as you wish and vehicles should be in the upper dimond rec parking lot by 5:45 to set up so kids can start visiting at 6pm. The kids will start parading down into the Center at 6:30 soit is a very short-lived commitment. We really appreciate your help!

New this year: All Trunk or Treat vehicles will be judged and the one deemed best will win a prize! Be sure to enter your Trunk or Treat...the kids will have fun and you may win!

FIRST EVER Oak Town 4-H Day of the Dead Celebration
The Officer Team wants to try something new this fall- a Day of the Dead Celebration where you can honor and celebrate the life of a loved-one no longer alive. The loved one can be a family member, a pet or just someone that was dear to you. Bring a photograph, trinket or some other small object that makes you think of them. At the club meeting you will be able to share your love and appreciation for this loved one and how the object you share brings them to mind. 

When you arrive at the meeting, the Trunk or Treat will be going on in the upper parking lot and then you will line up for a costumed parade down into the Dimond Recreation Center. 
  • Be sure at that point that you have the item you want to share with you. 
  • As you enter the Center's meeting room, there will be a smaller table with a table covering on it. Just place your item on that table until the Costume Contest is complete. 
  • At that point we will shift to sharing items about lost loved ones to celebrate their lives and you will pick up your item from the table and share who your loved one was and why the item is special to you in remembering them.
Skate Night is coming!! Do you like to skate? Do you want to get together with your county members and have some fun? Skate over to Golden Skate on October 27th, and participate in our annual skate night! Trunk or Treat! hi everyone! we are so excited for our annual trunks or treat fest! its going to be during the first half hour of our club meeting! there will be candy, games, a parade, and so much more! So dress up in your best costume and be ready to get some candy! see you there!

NEW for Oak Town 4-H Club in 2025-2026 
The Oak Town 4-H Officer Team met and has a great year planned for you. They have come up with a few new ideas we will be bringing on board this year. Some of these include:
  • Family Files: a place to pick up current information and to keep documents used throughout the year. All families registered by 9/7 will have a file ready for the September Club Meeting and more will be added as registrations come in. 
  • Super Member Form: We want to reward members that are active and participate in our club. The new Super Member Form gives members the opportunity to win prizes for doing stuff. The forms will be available each month and kids can get the items stamped off as they do them and those completing the form will get a prize at the end of the 4-H year.
  • Meeting Timeline: The Officer Team are switching the timeline of the meetings up a bit this year. The first 15-20 minutes of the meeting will be devoted to a group activity that is more free-form, followed by snacks and the business portion of the meeting will start after that. The Upcoming Events and announcements will be towards the beginning of the business meeting so those with very young children can find out what's coming up and then leave if this fits their young children's schedules.
The Officer Team will evaluate these changes periodically through the 4-H year and make adjustments if they find it necessary.

Club House Competitions: Last Call for Club House Points!
The May OT4H Club Meeting will be the final meeting where Club House points are collected. Things YOU can do at this meeting to score points for your Club House are
  • showing up!
  • having done the May Healthy Living Challenge
  • bringing a water bottle
  • bringing a friend who ISN'T enrolled in Oak Town 4-H but who might want to be
  • participating in the Club House placing of OT4H branded rocks in Dimond Park while collecting trash
  • writing a Club Officer Stump Speech in your Club House. EXTRA points for giving your speech to the entire club
The Club House with the most total points will be recognized at the June Club Party and each member will receive an ice cream gift certificate. Runner-Up Club House will also receive prizes.

Our Club Meetings include a time for shared snacks. We have a Signup Genius for help with providing these snacks at Club Meetings. At this time we are really short on snacks for May. Oak Town Club June Picnic and Planning Committee
Our OT4H end-of-year party will be in June. The Officers who met May 4th picked June 8th afternoon as the date of the party. However, several families have voiced their concern with the date as OUSD gets out the end of May and several families have already planned their vacations for that week. So.....we are conducting a poll to see which date is preferable to most families. Please fill out this google form ASAP. Entries by Sunday, May 11th will be considered and the final date choice will be announced at the Monday Club Meeting, May 12th. 


Additionally there will be a planning committee for the party that will meet on Zoom May 18th to decide the activities, food and general agenda for the party. All members and parents who wish to have input are encourage to attend.
Oak Town 4-H Community Service Recognition
As the year ends we have so much to celebrate! We are going to appreciate the people that have come to the most community service events. We want to recognize the families who have made the time and taken the drives to come out and help us with taking care of our community. Kids will be awarded their prizes during the summer party! If you can not make it to the party, do not worry!  We can find a time to give your award to you.

Oak Town 4-H Participation in Alameda County 4-H Fair Exhibits, Fund-Raising and Outreach
The Alameda County Fair opens June 13th and concludes July 6th. There are several ways to be involved in the County Fair. Although all participation in the County Fair as a 4-H member/family is encouraged, participation in the only County 4-H fund-raising at the fair is STRONGLY encouraged and expected.


The 4-H Cake Booth at the fair raises funds that support the entire county 4-H program. The County 4-H Program does not receive any funds from the State 4-H office but runs all of the county activities from field days and events, conference/camp scholarships, recognition and awards and more. Each 4-H Club in the County is expected to staff the 4-H Cake Booth at the Fair for one day. The date for Oak Town 4-H is June 21. We will have a signup genius for filling this date in 3 hour shifts from 11:30am-10:30 pm and need both youth members 7 and up and parents and leaders. Fair entry and parking passes are provided for all members and parents that sign up. If you are unable to work this date there will likely be additional hours available on different dates that Clubs have not signed up for.


Another opportunity to participate in the County Fair is by helping with outreach activities at the 4-H Feature Booth in the new Safeway Farm area of the fair near the livestock pavilion. Help will be needed on all Fridays through Sundays, likely in 2 hour shifts between 1-6pm. A sign up genius will be available for this as well.


Participating in the Fair by exhibiting items made in Club Projects is also encouraged and hopefully your Project Leaders have been working on this with you. Most still exhibits must be pre-registered by May 15th at 5pm and are physically due to the fairgrounds Friday or Saturday, May 23/24. Community Service Fair Poster-Making Experience
When making the poster for the Rabbit display, I learned that rabbits like certain toys when they are feeling certain emotions, like stress. They like to dig and when they are just normally playing around for fun, they like things to chew on. There are toys that rabbits have to think about in order to use them, for example, the toilet paper tube with popsicle sticks in it, they have to pull the popsicle sticks out to get the treat inside the toilet paper roll. I also realized that rabbits never stop growing their teeth and that rabbits eating carrots is a myth. They don’t actually eat carrots – it’s bad for them.

Alameda County 4-H Camp is BACK!
Hey everyone! This year, Alameda County 4-H is bringing back our county’s 4-H Camp from August 2-6th, and we need your help. We are severely short staffed, and are looking for teen staff members. You can do that by joining the February community service activity at Animal Assisted Happiness in Sunnyvale. This is a barnyard that provides experiences for kids with special needs.  They have chickens, cavies, ducks, doves, goats, sheep, pigs, alpaca, mini horses and a mini donkey. These animals need to be familiar with grooming, petting, and having kids around. 

Day & Time: Saturday, February 8th, 2-5pm
Location: Baylands Park,  999 E Caribbean Drive, Sunnyvale

January Club Meeting: The Return of Club House Meetings
January will see the return of our OT4H Club House Meetings with the Club House Mascots being revisited as well as planning and performing a Club House Brown Bag Skit with the general theme of "4-H Adventures". Club Houses started discussing their Club House Mascot in November but did not complete their choices so they will revisit this and make their own Club House mascot selection. Then for the activity each Club House will be given a Brown Bag Skit packet to put together a short skit, themed to "4-H Adventure", to perform for the whole club. If should be a fun and entertaining evening!

Oak Town 4-H Club Snacks
Beginning with the January 2025 OT4H Club Meeting we will resume a signup genius for families to sign up to bring snacks. There are SignupGenius signups for each of the remaining meetings of the 4-H year. Please sign up to bring one shared snack sometime this winter/spring. 

Parent/Leader Meetings at Club
For many of the Oak Town 4-H Club Meetings, there is a separate parent/leader meeting while the youth members are in their Club House Meetings. For January we will touch on Communication and Public Speaking. But this is also a chance for you to bring your questions and concerns for discussion and advise. Is something working well that you want to comment on? Or is there something that isn't working or you don't fully understand? There were two options to choose from. The first was boxing up meals for the families to pick up. Each box had a certain list of ingredients that would be followed to ensure that the families would get what they needed. The boxes were assembled one by one where each person would choose their item from the table with abundant supplies. Then, the finished boxes would be stacked up and transported to all of the homes. The other option was to bag toys. Each volunteer would get a bag and fill it up with 3 toys, one of each size, and some other items such as games, stuffed animals, and stocking stuffers. The bags would be tagged with the gender and age group that they were assigned to. Overall, each 4Her that attended helped serve their community with these kind actions.

2023-2024 Oak Town Member Recognition and Awards
Several of our Members and Leaders will be honored at the CASES Field Day Sunday, November 17th at Dublin Library from 3-5:30 pm. Attend to cheer on members Aidan, Amelia, Delilah, Julianna, Kiera, Rae, Roshan, Tillie and Leader Allie Dilauro.

Then, at our November Club Meeting we will also be recognizing members that will be receiving their 4-H Year Completion Pin, 100% Attendance, and Primary, Spark and Star Awards. Congratulations to all members receiving awards and recognition!

Topics that are appropriate for the time of the 4-H year are presented and hopefully clarified. However, any time you have a question or concern, please bring it forward during our meetings so it can be addressed and, if you have questions about something, doubtless other parents have questions as well. We appreciate and are grateful for any issues you may raise and want to add clarity to the 4-H experience.]]>
