Oak Town 4-H End-Of-Year Party and COVID-19 Protocol
Just a note to address COVID-19 concerns and our end-of-year party. As always this year, we are required to keep an attendance list and contact info of ALL attendees....this includes not only members but leaders, parents and even life guards. This party will be almost exclusively outdoors but with the abundance of eating and drinking opportunities as well as access to the pool, it will not be possible in most cases to use face masks and they will not be required. I'm sure everyone is well aware of this drill but will reiterate....if you are not feeling well, have signs of COVID-19 infections or were recently directly exposed to anyone with active COVID-19, please stay home. Thanks for helping us try to keep our families as safe as we can.

2022 4-H Record Book Workshops and Help Sessions

5/10/2022

Record Keeping is one of the Life Skills that 4-H encourages and recognizes. Documenting what you have done and achieved is a way to see all you’ve accomplished over the years. Reaching milestones in your 4-H journey earns you achievement awards that can start the year you are 9 9 and continue to accumulate through your years in 4-H.
We are again offering Record Book Workshops and Help Sessions! This year we will offer special workshops for new members and those who have never completed a Record Book. Another set of drop-in help sessions are scheduled for those who have completed and submitted a Record Book in the past.
For New Members, and those New to Record Books
NOW is a great time to begin as there is a new, simplified record-keeping track launching that allows you to complete the main tracking form quickly and get recognition for your achievements most years.  These workshops will give you information AND help you compete your first year’s forms. Offered 3 times.
  • Saturday, May 14, 4:15-5pm (this is an add-on to the already-scheduled Introduction to 4-H meeting that day at 3pm)
  • Monday, May 16 5:30-6:30 pm
  • Thursday, May 26 5-6pm

For those Continuing the 4-H Record Book Journey

  • Wednesday May 18, 6-7 pm
  • Thursday, May 26, 7-8 pm

All sessions will be held outdoors at the Butko residence. Contact oaktown4h@gmail.com for location. Please RSVP at least a day in advance.Sessions with no apparent interest may be canceled.

Be An Oak Town 4-H Club Officer

5/9/2022

Be an Oak Town Officer for 2022-2023!
May is when we elect our officers for next program year. If you are interested in being an officer in our club, please read these officer descriptions and give a quick speech on why you'd like to be an officer. Being an officer lets you help plan and shape how our club meetings are run and what community service activities we do. I really recommend you run for an officer position! - Leo, Secretary

May 09th, 2022

5/9/2022

Oak Town 4-H Members, we are in need of YOUR help planning and running our club. At the May 9th Oak Town 4-H Meeting we will be electing officers for the 2022-2023 Oak Town 4-H Club. Descriptions of the various positions are linked in this news blast and there are a variety of choices. But we need member input and help to keep the club as effective, useful, fun and educational as we can. Please do review the Officer Expectations and Job Descriptions and see if there is a position you would like to take on. Youth voices not only matter but are one of the strengths of 4-H.

February Oak Town 4-H Club Meetings Continue Virtually

2/2/2022

With the California State 4-H Office's restrictions on 4-H meetings being held indoors, Oak Town 4-H is planning a virtual meeting again this month. Unlike the rapid turnaround time for the change in format in January, the officer team is planning several hands-on, collaborative activities and "shared snacks". This will mean that members will all have meeting supply packets to pick up before the club meeting Monday, February 14th on Zoom. Packets will likely be available for pick up Sunday, 2/13/22 from 10-6pm and Monday, the 14th from 8-5pm.

While you are picking up your meeting supply packet(s), take this opportunity to drop off any children's books that can be used to restock the Little free Library at Dimond Recreation Center. Be sure to indicate the family name of the donor so the member's 4-H Club House can be credit4ed!

More information on the meeting agenda, pick-up packets and links will be coming soon.

WE ARE HOPEFUL WITH THE COMING CHANGE IN DAYLIGHT HOURS THAT WE CAN RETURN TO IN-PERSON, IF OUTDOOR, MEETINGS IN MARCH.

January Oak Town Club Meeting Going VIRTUAL!

1/7/2022

After discussion with the executive officer team and club leaders, we've decided to have the January club meeting be virtual due to the rise in Omicron variant transmission in the community right now. We are hoping this latest surge will be over for us to meet in person again in February.

Zoom meeting information has been added to the club calendar.

PLEASE NOTE: Parents, please also attend so club leaders can share Presentation Day information with you while the kids are learning about it in their club houses.

Thank you!

2022 Alameda County 4-H Presentation Day Information

1/7/2022

County Presentation Day - Sign up now!
The links for the Alameda County 4-H 2020 Presentation and Interview Event is now operational and open for youth and volunteer sign-up. The virtual event is on Saturday/Sunday the 12th and 13th of February.

We are using a similar format as the virtual event last year in that people will sign up for a specific 2 hour slot – there are a limited number of available spots in each slot and it will be closed once it is full. We encourage everyone that wants to participate to sign up for a slot in a timely manner. Our goal is to accommodate all youth that wish to participate but we will attempt to limit all 2 hour slots to 6 unique presentations. In the event that the current slots all fill up, we will evaluate adding slots to the event at that time.

As with all events, we need volunteers to help put on this event – evaluators for the presentation and interview sessions and room hosts that assist in the coordination of the presentation slots.

Oak Town 4-H June Picnic Information

5/30/2021

We will be again meeting in-person for our June Oak Town 4-H Club Meeting. This year we will be holding a club picnic at Dimond Park on June 7th. Here is a rough schedule for the picnic.
  • 5-6 pm Pre-Picnic Clean-Up in the park
  • 6pm (Touch-Less) Meet in Club Houses, check-In, decorate a club-branded rock
  • 6:20 pm Picnic….the club will provide club members picnic dinner (sandwich, fruit, chips, cookie and napkin). We ask that YOU bring
    • Family picnic blanket to picnic on (the tables and benches can be a bit grungy, and family picnic blankets will provide a bit of “social distancing”)
    • Refillable water bottles or a beverage of your choice.
    • We will be providing napkins but not plates. If you feel you need a plate, please bring your own.
  • 6:30 pm Club Awards

Community Service Opportunities at the Oak Town 4-H June Picnic

5/30/2021

Oak Town 4-H Members will have two opportunities to complete some community service at out June Picnic! We are looking forward to a time when we can again partner with Dimond Recreation Center and Park and get back to meeting there. These two community service opportunities allow us to help out a little in anticipation of that time.

First you will have the option of coming an hour before the picnic to help clean up the park. We will provide trash bags and disposable gloves and a few trash grabbers and will target cleaning up the playground areas. The creek area is also often a site where trash is left so cleaning up along the creek path is also suggested if there is enough time and enough membership participation.

Second…...did you know there was a “Little Free Library” at Dimond Rec Center? They are in need of children's’ books to loan out and we are hoping to help them with this endeavor throughout the coming year. If you have used children’s books that you would like to dispose of in a useful manner this is a great time to do it. Bring your lightly used children's’ books to the picnic and we will “brand” them with a label stating that they are provided by Oak Town 4-H and put them into the little library book shelf during the picnic.
