Great fun at our annual club potluck, silent auction, and community service projects. Oaktown members were everywhere for the 3 weeks of fair--small animals, crafts, photography, music, gardening, and more--we all had an awesome time showing off everything we'd worked on in our projects. Can't wait for next year!
The Environmental Stewardship project volunteered with Friends of Sausal Creek on Sunday, November 20th. We went to the Bridgeview Trailhead in Oakland to help restore the nature, by planting native species to attract pollinators. It started pouring halfway through, but we finished planting anyway!

We wrote in our journals and discussed what it means to be an environmental steward. We took an online quiz to find out what our ecological footprints are. I got 5.3. This means if everyone in the world lived like I did, it would take 5.3 Earths to sustain us all. We then watched a video about why compost is good for the environment. Did you know that all the trash in landfills emits methane, which harms the atmosphere? By composting, we can reduce the waste that goes into the landfill. We made our own compost jars filled with food scraps, dirt, and leaves. When we had filled our jars, we drew and labeled a picture of them in our journals. We are going to monitor their progress until the next meeting. New members are still welcome to join us!
-Hannah We're having our first Video Project meeting next week on Tuesday the 11th at George and Barbara's house from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. We'll discuss the project and general video production processes. Please let us know if you will be attending.
